POWER RANKINGS - BFA

Image
As League Commissioner, I referred to the 2020 BFA season as "quirky" and quite "unique". The 2020 Power Rankings reflect those affectionate views. Unlike the BFFL and BFC Power Rankings, the two teams who reached the BFA Bowl do not appear at the number one spot, in fact they do not move inside the Top Six. The reason for this is due to the competitive nature of their respective divisions in 2020 and also that the teams in the Top Six had very strong games and strung together some fantastic scoring performances in the regular season, only to be caught out in the knockout playoff stages. Durham Destroyers, who finished the last three games of the season scoring 180, 238 and 232 points respectively are the number one Power Ranked team in the BFA.  They are joined in the Top Six by two other BFA East Division teams, Seaton Carew Voodoo and Deal Broncos. The BFA East was a fierce battleground in 2020 and with the inclusion of Stevenage Sabres in the East this year (d...

POWER RANKINGS - BFC

The first Power Rankings from the 2020 season were produced yesterday for our second level BFC. Both the Bowl participants would take up the top two spots, but in third place were the BFU East champions who went out of the competition in the Divisional Playoffs. In the top five, there are two teams from the West and one each from North, South and East. A spread of geographical teams in the BFC. Bedfordshire Gladiators, with their narrow 5 point Bowl win over Cardiff Hydra ended the season and begin the 2021 season as the Power Ranked number one team in the BFC. Cardiff Hydra sit second after an equally strong regular season campaign and a strong playoff process. Suffolk Eagles sit third, a team competing in a very tough BFC East which saw the division lead change hands multiple times over the course of the season. Although the Eagles were beaten in the Divisional Playoff by the Rochdale Rams, their strong regular season campaign sees them where they are in the Power Rankings. Low...

POWER RANKINGS - BFFL

As the new league sheets and team offices for the 2021 season are being prepared, we have our first Power Rankings and Waiver Priority List for the 2021 season. The League Commissioner was not a fan of the previous waiver priority list, a system which saw teams ranked in order of their win-loss record in a particular division which he felt did not quite reflect how strong or weaker some divisions were, considering that nearly half the season games are against divisional opponents. He also felt that a team should be ranked on its strength of schedule also. Using a system he had devised for college football rankings, the Commish has implemented a formula process where each week teams will be ranked using a system which takes into consideration their result, strength of opponent and the strength of the division they compete in. This system will not only allow the Waiver Priority List to be generated, it will also act as a Power Ranking for teams in each league. The first set of rank...
