ABOUT
HISTORY
The British Fantasy Football League was formed in February 2020. The brainchild of The Commish who wanted a retro or old school league. There is no app used in this league, each team GM has a team office in the form of a Google Sheet which then directs them to the other types of league info they require, such as schedule, player points, standings and other league information.
The top tier BFFL was the first level of the league to be formed, but due to lots of interest the second tier BFC was formed. Soon after the third tier BFA was formed and as fantasy football fans began to notice the league, more and more people contacted Brit Towers interested in joining this unique and very community focused league.
The top three levels were all 16 teams split into 4 divisions. With so many people interested in joining the league The Commish decided that for 2020 the fourth tier BFU would be 32 teams, all split into 4 geographical divisions of 8. The top four at the end of the 2020 season would form the BFU in 2021 and the bottom four in those divisions would form the new 2021 fifth level BFO.
During the off-season there were other people interested in joining. The current structure of head-to-head leagues (five now in total) is at its maximum for reading the API statistics pulled across to make the league work. However, after speaking with the Assistant Commissioner it was agreed that a "Bestball" style sixth tier could work.
With that in mind the sixth level British Bulldog was formed this year. This consists of 16 teams and they will not go head-to-head, but their 31 man roster will be a total points format, with their highest scoring 18 players in each position making up their points. There will be opportunities for these teams to move into the head-to-head leagues.
KEEPERS
At the end of every season all the teams in the league are allowed to trade any of their 31 man rosters for other players or draft picks for that season from the day after the Super Bowl until the day before the official NFL Draft. They are then not allowed to trade until the 2nd June.
From the day of the NFL Draft until the 1st June every season each team is allowed to nominate one player per position (QB, RB, WR, TE, K, DL, LB and DB) who they wish to keep on their roster for the following season. All the other players are discarded and placed into the draft pool for that year along with the rookies.
Once teams have selected their 8 keepers come 1st June they will be allowed to trade until the 12th Week of the regular season at which point trading finishes for the season.
STRUCTURE
Each of the top five leagues are split into 4 divisions (North, South, East and West). Every team plays a 13 week regular season, a Divisional playoff of 8 teams, the Elimination Playoff of 4 teams and the respective Bowls in each league, with the exception of British Bulldog.
Level 1 - BFFL
Level 2 - BFC
Level 3 - BFA
Level 4 - BFU
Level 5 - BFO
Level 6 - British Bulldog
The 13 week regular season for each team is set up so that they play the three other teams in their division twice and then 7 inter-divisional games. The top 2 in each division qualify for the Divisional Playoff and this is ranked so that the teams who win their respective divisions are ranked 1st-4th and the Divisional runners-up 5th-8th.
PROMOTION & RELEGATION
There is promotion and relegation in place for all the levels, meaning that franchises can develop and move throughout the Brit Towers universe of leagues.
This may mean, at times, teams are moved from their divisions to another to accommodate a new team.
The promotion and relegation structure currently in place is as follows:
1. BFFL and BFC
The team finishing bottom of their division with the worst record is relegated to the BFC. The team who wins the BFC Bowl is promoted to the top level BFFL.
2. BFC and BFA
The team finishing bottom of their division with the worst record is relegated to the BFA. The team who wins the BFA Bowl is promoted to the second level BFC.
3. BFA and BFU
The two teams who finish bottom of their divisions with the two worst records are relegated to the BFU and the teams who won through to the BFU Bowl are promoted to the third level BFA.
4. BFU and BFO
The four teams who finish bottom of their divisions are relegated to the BFO. The four teams who win their divisions* are promoted to the fourth level BFU.
*the only exception to the BFO divisional winner not being promoted is if the team who finished runner-up in that particular division goes on to win the BFO Bowl and they then trump the division winner for promotion.
5. BFO and British Bulldog
After the 2022 season there will be promotion from the Bestball style British Bulldog into the head-to-head leagues. Think of British Bulldog as a "non-league" level similar to soccer in the U.K.
The amount of teams being promoted will stagger for four seasons until such time that the four teams who finish bottom of their divisions in the BFO are relegated to British Bulldog and the top 4 teams in British Bulldog are promoted into the league. The stagger will be as follows:
2022 - Champion of British Bulldog promoted. Team finishing bottom of division in BFO with worst record relegated
2023 - Champion and runner-up of British Bulldog promoted. Two teams finishing bottom of their divisions in BFO with the two worst records are relegated.
2024 - Champion, runner-up and 3rd place of British Bulldog promoted. Three teams finishing bottom of their divisions in BFO with the three worst records are relegated.
2025 - Top 4 in British Bulldog are promoted. The four teams who finish bottom of their divisions in BFO are relegated.
ROSTERS & STARTERS
Every team in all leagues will have a 31 man roster consisting of:
QB - 3
RB - 4
WR - 5
TE - 3
K - 2
DL - 4
LB - 5
DB - 5
Of those 31 the GM's in the top 5 leagues (not British Bulldog) will select each game week these 18 starters:
QB - 1
RB - 2
WR - 3
TE - 1
K - 1
O-FLEX (spare RB, WR or TE) - 1
DL - 2
LB - 3
DB - 3
D-FLEX (spare DL, LB or DB)
In British Bulldog they do not have an O-FLEX or D-FLEX option and therefore their 18 starters will be the same, but in place of the two FLEX positions they will have an RB and a DL who will score.
