Medway is an area in Kent consisting of towns such as Rochester, Gillingham, Chatham, Strood and Rainham. The area is dominated by Rochester but was an important naval dockyard and military stronghold with establishments at Chatham and Gillingham. The Royal Marines have a long history with Chatham and have a museum in the town, with Royal Engineers having a headquarters in Gillingham. The North Kent Marshes make-up part of Medway, an environmentally significant wetlands region with several Sites of Special Scientific Interest. On a sporting front the only Kent based professional football team, Gillingham, can be considered the top priority in the area but Medway Tigers are eager to change that balance of power. They just missed out on a playoff spot last season, competing the top level BFFL East Division which also consists of both the British champions and runners-up from 2020 (Essex and Norwich), so a tough division.
