POWER RANKINGS - BFA

As League Commissioner, I referred to the 2020 BFA season as "quirky" and quite "unique". The 2020 Power Rankings reflect those affectionate views.


Unlike the BFFL and BFC Power Rankings, the two teams who reached the BFA Bowl do not appear at the number one spot, in fact they do not move inside the Top Six.

The reason for this is due to the competitive nature of their respective divisions in 2020 and also that the teams in the Top Six had very strong games and strung together some fantastic scoring performances in the regular season, only to be caught out in the knockout playoff stages.

Durham Destroyers, who finished the last three games of the season scoring 180, 238 and 232 points respectively are the number one Power Ranked team in the BFA. 

They are joined in the Top Six by two other BFA East Division teams, Seaton Carew Voodoo and Deal Broncos. The BFA East was a fierce battleground in 2020 and with the inclusion of Stevenage Sabres in the East this year (division move for this season), you could say the BFA East in 2021 hold four of the Top Six Power Ranked places at present.

That division has the potential to be a firecracker this year.

The two Bowl teams, Derry Venom (winners) and Glasgow Claymores (runners-up) sit 7th and 8th respectively and both teams also have new divisions to compete in for 2021 so this will be interesting to see how that affects not only their Bowl ambitions but their power ranking.

As I said in 2020, the BFA is a unique and rather quirky place to compete in, but as the Power Rankings suggest, a cauldron of competitive sparks.

QUICK 10 WITH.....REDDITCH RAPTORS

  Redditch is a town in Worcestershire, south of Birmingham. It was during the 19th century it became the international centre for the needle and fishing tackle industry. At one point 90% of the worlds needles were manufactured in Redditch. The name of the town allegedly derives from the term 'Red-Ditch', in reference to the red clay of the nearby River Arrow. Aside from the needle and fishing tackle industry, Redditch was a prominent industry location for motorcycles and springs. Halfords and GKN both have their headquarters in the town. There are several historical sites such as the National Needle Museum, Moons Moat and the ruins of Bordesley Abbey, a 12th century Cistercian abbey. Notable people born in Redditch were actor Charles Dance and former One Direction member Harry Styles. QUICK 10 WITH.....HAYDOCK STEELERS

  Haydock is a large village within the Metropolitan Borough of St. Helens. It is, approximately, located halfway between Liverpool and Manchester. It was a place rich in coal and mining, with upto 13 collieries working at any one time. Despite being a 'village', in the 1900's Haydock in fact had three railway stations. The Haydock Brass Band was formed in 1861 and is still going, but it is best known for its racecourse. Haydock Park Racecourse opend in 1899, a left-handed track of 1 mile and 5 furlongs which hosts both Flat and National Hunt Racing.  It hosts many notable races including the Grand National Trial, the Betfair Chase, the Champion Hurdle Trial and the Group 1 Haydock Spring Cup. It was awarded Racecourse of the Year in 1998 and 2000. The Haydock Steelers are an expansion team for 2021.
