The 2021 season in the Brit Towers universe is going to be huge for many reasons across our six levels, mostly in part to the promotion and relegation system kicking in.
This format did not exist for our inaugural 2020 season as the teams settled in to the top three levels, leaving 32 teams to compete in regional divisions within the BFU to decide who would form the fourth level BFU for 2021 and who would form the fifth level BFO.
Add to this the addition of British Bulldog, our bestball format level, which will join the promotion and relegation system in 2022 and it is easy to see why this is such a big season.
For an in-depth look at the season ahead here is what will be happening in the Brit Towers universe for 2021:
THE BFFL CUP
A new "F.A. Cup" style addition to the league formats, where all 96 teams will be able to go up against each other in this knockout competition. Barriers of which level a team plays in will be broken down and every team has a chance to lift the BFFL Cup.
This is an exciting new competition and the first round draw will be coming soon.
"There Can Be Only One"
LEVEL 6 - BRITISH BULLDOG
Our new sixth level for the 2021 season. This is a bestball style format, so the teams will not be selecting their starters each week as with the top five levels. However, they will be selecting teams for their BFFL Cup weeks.
From 2022 there will be a staggered promotion and relegation with the fifth level BFO. At the end of the 2022 season the champion of British Bulldog will replace the team finishing bottom of their division in the BFO with the worst season record. The following year two places will be up and then a third, culminating in four promotion and relegation spots between British Bulldog and the BFO.
The British Bulldog will always remain a bestball style format, but it gives these teams a chance to progress through the pyramid system of the British Fantasy Football League.
LEVEL 5 - BFO
As mentioned above in the British Bulldog segment, there will be staggered relegation spots from 2022 onwards, but heading into 2021 the BFO teams have promotion on their minds and there are four of these spots up for grabs.
The teams who win their respective divisions will be in line for promotion to the fourth level BFU, with one exception.
If a team finishes runner-up in their division, thereby qualifying for the playoffs, goes on to win the BFO Bowl, they will trump their divisional winner and gain promotion to the BFU along with the other three division winners.
Four places up for grabs, a big season for the BFO.
LEVEL 4 - BFU
The BFU is made up of the 16 teams who reached their respective divisional playoffs in 2020. There is going to be a huge change in how the BFU looks this season to future seasons as there are two promotion spots up for grabs and four relegation spots.
The teams who finish bottom of their respective divisions will be relegated to the BFO and replaced, the two teams who make it to the BFU Bowl will be promoted to the third level BFA.
Huge level the BFU which will see six new teams in 2022.
LEVEL 3 - BFA
The two teams who finish bottom of their respective divisions with the worst record, will be relegated to the BFU for 2022 and the team who wins the BFA Bowl will be promoted to the second level BFC.
That will see three new teams entering the BFA in 2022.
LEVEL 2 - BFC
The second level of the Brit Towers universe will see a straight one up and one down format. The team who finishes bottom of their division with the worst record will be relegated to the BFA and the team who wins the BFC Bowl promoted to the top level BFFL.
LEVEL 1 - BFFL
The top level of the Brit Towers universe. The team finishing bottom of their division with the worst record will be relegated to the BFC and we will crown a British Champion.
DEFENDING CHAMPIONS
The top three levels were the only ones to play in our 16 team format, which is now universal to level five and the defending champions are as follows:
BFFL - ESSEX WOLVERINES
BFC - BEDFORDSHIRE GLADIATORS
BFA - DERRY VENOM
It is an enormous season for all the teams involved and there will be a lot of changes heading into the 2022 season.
We can't wait.
See you on the virtual fantasy pitch.
