QUICK 10 WITH.....HAVANT REBELS
Havant. A town in Hampshire between Portsmouth and Winchester, the centre being an old Celtic settlement.
A large proportion of the town was destroyed by fire in 1760 leaving only a church and cottages, which were turned into a pub. It is said the beams in the pub came from the Spanish Armada. There are several natural springs in the area and Havant was home to the premier parchment manufacturing facility. The Treaty of Versailles was written on Havant parchment.
In sporting terms, the senior football team in the area is non-league Havant & Waterlooville F.C. who reached the fourth round of the FA Cup in 2008 after beating Swansea City. The town is represented both in rugby and hockey, with Havant Hockey Club three times winners of the England Hockey League and two hockey players represented England at the Commonwealth Games in 2006. Malcolm Cooper is a member of the rifle and pistol club in Havant and went on to win gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games.
In fantasy football terms, Havant Rebels join the newly formed British Bulldog league for 2021, but their GM brings with him a bag full of experience both as a player, fantasy participant, stat-guru, dynasty king and Dynasty podcast host over at 5 Yard Rush - He also compiles weekly rankings whilst contributing to the ECR over at Fantasy Pros
This is Rich, the GM of Havant Rebels, and these are his Quick 10 Questions.
1. How did you get involved in the league?
I saw the interaction on Twitter throughout the season last year and finally thought I want to be a part of it.
2. What team do you support and why?
Jets - They lost the first ever game I watched, which was a playoff game to the Colts in 1999.
3. How did you get into the NFL?
Mainly from my brother. He watched NFL and persuaded me to go down and start playing with Sussex Thunder.
4. Who is your favourite player and why?
Currently, Mekhi Becton (he is an absolute beast). All-time is Darrell Revis. His devotion to technique and film study was what I aspired to be as a player.
5. What is your experience with fantasy football?
I've been playing for around 12 years. Dynasty became my focus 3 or 4 years ago and I'm the host of the 5yard dynasty pod.
6. What are your views on a potential London franchise?
I'd be in favour. At this stage it feels inevitable. I think it will be interesting to see how the NFL overcome the logistical issue, but if the team had an East Coast base, I think it could be really interesting.
7. What other hobbies/sports do you enjoy apart from NFL?
Pretty much anything sport related. I play 5-a-side and run regularly. I also watch NBA, cricket, golf or football.
8. What's your favourite film?
Shawshank Redemption, an absolute classic and a must watch whenever it's on TV.
9. What's your favourite music?
Not really a big music guy so I don't listen at all to music. Back in my late teenage years I was pretty much into Kanye, Jay-Z and The Streets.
10. Who is your Super Bowl tip this year?
I could be obvious and go Chiefs, but I quite fancy the Ravens this year. I think the offence will bounce back and adjust with Stanley healthy and an improved O-Line.
I want to thank Rich for taking the time out from his busy podcasting, writing, stat-fuelled, dynasty and family schedule to pop these answers over to Brit Towers and wish him the best for the Havant Rebel's first season in the BFFL.
