QUICK 10 WITH.....CHARLTON VALIANTS

Charlton was an ancient parish of Kent until it became a Metropolitan borough in south-east London, famed for the Horn Fair and the production of Royal Navy parts during World War II.

The Charlton Valiants add their name to the sporting endeavours of the area, which has the London Marathon starting on Blackheath, the Blackheath RFC and more notably Charlton Athletic FC.

The Valiants posted an impressive 12-2 record in the BFU South last season, winning the division, with Dan, the GM, picking up 5 GM Of The Week Awards. They eventually lost out in the Divisional Playoff but are determined to not only go one better this year but to seal their promotion into the BFA for 2022.

Dan is also part of the media team, jumping on Twitter during the season with his anecdotes, facts and comedy-takes, plus he has jumped on the weekly pod, From Cali To Kent.

This is Dan, the GM of the Charlton Valiants and these are his Quick 10 Questions

1. How did you get involved in the league?

Had seen a few team messages flying about on Twitter and that got me intrigued. I messaged Simmo to see if there was space and haven't looked back since.

2. What team do you support and why?

Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I was watching NFL without an allegiance and then holidayed in Orlando. I managed to get to Tampa for a game and fell in love with them right then.

3. How did you get into NFL?

Some late nights returning from the pub, popping the TV on before I passed out and came across it.

4. Who is your favourite player and why?

Mike Evans - I followed Tampa the year before we drafted him so I have seen his whole career unfold and he loves those Bucs as much as us fans do. Also, a nod to Megatron, who I admired when I started watching the sport. Just grateful I don't follow the Lions as a result.

5. What is your experience with fantasy football?

I've been playing fantasy football amongst close friends for around 5 years. This has branched out over the last year or two and I am so glad it has. I have found the different formats, scoring, rosters all give you the opportunity to take a different approach to the game.

6. What are you views on a potential London franchise?

I'm all for it. I will not change allegiance, but having a regular team based her can only help grow the sport in the UK and a new generation of fans will have a reason to support a certain team. Also, living near London means I'll get to see the Bucs without a 9 hour flight at least once a decade.

7. What other hobbies/sports do you enjoy apart from NFL?

I have always been big into football, both playing and following Charlton Athletic, but my playing days are over now. I'm older and golf has filled that void. Nothing better than hitting the course on a sunny day, trying to get a ball in a hole. Generally though, I watch and follow most sports - baseball, Formula One and horse racing are some of my favourites.

8. What's your favourite film?

I have so many favourite films that this one is hard. I'd probably say that Blazing Saddles has often been a go-to on down-days. Not sure it'd be allowed to be made these days, but lots of silly humour as there are with Mel Brooks movies.

9. What's your favourite music?

My music taste is very dated. In the car you will find Led Zep, Bruce Springsteen, Paul Simon etc. - Have to say I don't listen to it much with so many great podcasts available to fill that time.

10. Who is your Super Bowl tip for this year?

It has to be my Bucs - going for back-to-back!!! - If not, the Chiefs won't be far away and part of me would like to see the Bills win after some tough times in the past.

I would like to thank Dan for taking his time to answer the Quick 10 Questions.

The Charlton Valiants open their 2021 season with a trip to the Herne Bay Saxons followed by a trip to Jersey Devils.
