BRITISH BULLDOG - WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE NEW ERA

 

In the last league post we looked back at the 2020 season for the 80 teams who participated in the head-to-head leagues and how that has moved forward to the promotion and relegation process which begins this year.

What of our new 6th level series, the British Bulldog?

This will be the first season of British Bulldog, the 16 teams recruited during the off-season and although they will not be playing a head-to-head format the intensity of competition is still there.

These 16 new teams will compete in a Bestball format as opposed to the head-to-head of the five other levels. That is really the only difference British Bulldog have to contend with.

All the teams will have the same roster spots and their best 18 performing players in a certain week will go towards their total points awards over the 17 week season. They can still trade, still sign free agents and still look at keeping 8 players on their rosters at the end of the season. They will also have the same draft format as all the other leagues from the end of this season.

In 2022 their promotion campaign will begin and every year after this for the next four years the promotion places increase.

2022 - Champion promoted to BFO

2023 - Champion and runner-up promoted to BFO

2024 - Champion, runner-up and 3rd place promoted to BFO

2025 - Champion, runner-up, 3rd and 4th place promoted to BFO

This staggered number of teams being promoted to the BFO (and teams relegated to British Bulldog) gives teams time to adjust to the moving landscape.

What this staggered format means to the BFO is that they too will have a status to play for to remain in the head-to-head league formats.

The British Bulldog teams may well be just beginning their journey in the Brit Towers universe and they may well be playing a different format, but the opportunity to move through the pyramid system is clear and concise.

On Saturday 12th June they kick-off the first of our six drafts. This will be their first ever draft from scratch to build their rosters and at midday on that Saturday, the Carlisle Titans will be on the clock.

We embrace our new level and we heartily welcome them into the Brit Towers universe.
