7 DRAFT DAYS - DAY 7 - BRIT TOWERS 2021 MOCK DRAFT
2021 MOCK DRAFT
A selection of GM's from across the BFFL universe congregated a few weeks ago and began a 7 round 2021 Mock Draft.
In this last post for Day 7 of our Draft Day countdown, we present the first round and the comments made on each pick by those GM's.
This draft took place prior to any recent trades.
It is fair to say The Commish went completely rogue with his pick.
This was a lot of fun.
Listed will be:
- Pick Number
- NFL Team Drafting For
- GM Name, BFFL Team and League
- Player Selected, Position and College
- Reason For Selection
Welcome to the 2021 BFFL Mock Draft. The Jacksonville Jaguars are on the clock.
PICK #1 - JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
Pat - GM of Stevenage Sabres - BFA South
Trevor Lawrence, QB, Clemson
"Generational!"
PICK #2 - NEW YORK JETS
Tom - GM of Causeway Giants - BFA West
Zach Wilson, QB, BYU
"I have no idea what the Jets will do here. Wilson seems to be the consensus pick. They could trade down and address one of the many other needs on the roster. Penei Sewell would make sense, but not at #2. The best bet would be to trade back and get him - with an inability to do this with future picks in this mock draft, QB it is. Of course, Joe Douglas and Robert Saleh may have their eyes on Justin Fields. Who knows what the Jets will do here?"
PICK #3 - SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS
Mason - GM of Gibraltar Macaques - BFO South
Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State
"After much back and forth between the GM and Coach, we decided Fields was the future of the franchise. Our relationship with Justin goes back to his days of 7 on 7 with us at the QB collective. His relentless work ethic, arm strength and his ability to extend the play are just a few reasons why we are excited to have a player of his calibre lead this team for years to come. "
PICK #4 - ATLANTA FALCONS
Jon - GM of Walsall Guardians - BFC West
Kyle Pitts, TE, Florida
"Best catch passer in the draft class. With Matt Ryan contracted til 2023 Falcons have time to pick up a QB."
PICK #5 - CINCINNATI BENGALS
Tony - GM of Hartlepool Heathens - BFC East
Penei Sewell, T, Oregon
"Must protect Joe Burrow! Potentially generational talent."
PICK #6 - MIAMI DOLPHINS
Shane - GM of Derry Venom - BFA West
Micah Parsons, LB, Penn State
"Whilst the sexy pick here would have been one of the top WRs, this draft class is very deep at that position and the success rate of round 2+3 WR in recent seasons has been pretty high. I went for Micah Parsons as I see him as probably only behind Kyle Pitts in terms of freakish athleticism for their position. He has the athletic ability to cover sideline to sideline, stop the run and rush the passer when necessary and I see him as a good fit in the Dolphins defense. Someone who could become a mainstay for years to come."
PICK #7 - DETROIT LIONS
Ben - GM of Norwich Predators - BFFL East
Trey Lance, QB, NDSU
"Jared Goff is a short term bridge QB and Lance has a lot of upside. Getting a future QB is more important here than a contribute now type option like Chase, Smith or Waddle."
PICK #8 - CAROLINA PANTHERS
Nick - GM of Yorkshire Panthers - BFFL North
Rashawan Slater, T, Northwestern
"Protecting the QB is important, no matter who your QB is. The value of the remaining QBs at 8 is low, so we go with a strong, versatile offensive lineman."
PICK #9 - DENVER BRONCOS
Dan - GM of Charlton Valiants - BFU South
Caleb Farley, CB, Virginia Tech
"Farley fills a huge need at CB on this Broncos team and has all the attributes to fit into the side right away and to be a main stay for the future."
PICK #10 - DALLAS COWBOYS
Rich - GM of Jersey Devils - BFU South
Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama
"Corner was always the need. Despite encouraging free agent signings the cowboys are still searching for a leader and a standout in the next possible doomsday defense. In 2020 the world reminded us that the NFC east was more Grit than glam, and the best way to get some grit is with a solid defense. This young future all star fits well with the defensive scheme and should make the young and inconsistant qbs in our division have fits."
** TRADE **
PICK #11 - BALTIMORE RAVENS (FROM NEW YORK GIANTS)
Ryan - GM of Manchester Hornets - BFFL North
Ja'Marr Chase, WR, Alabama
"The board fell perfectly, the top WR in the class fell and we couldn't pass him up. The alpha WR that Lamar Jackson needs."
PICK #12 - PHILADELPHIA EAGLES
Ant - GM of Swindon Steam - BFFL South
Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama
"Production, plus elite athleticism and the ability to play through contact equals a special prospect. Waddle has "it" and the Eagles need some special players."
PICK #13 - LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
Tom - GM of West London Sting - BFO South
Christian Darrisaw, T, Virginia Tech
"One of two starting LT's on our board - fills the last space on our O-Line - a must in protecting Justin Herbert as he adds to his rookie of the year season."
PICK #14 - MINNESOTA VIKINGS
Louis - GM of Cambridge Dragons - BFFL East
Kwity Paye, Edge, Michigan
"Exciting and talented player. Physical and explosive."
PIC #15 - NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS
Ant - GM of Medway Tigers - BFFL East
Mac Jones, QB, Alabama
"We needed a franchise quarterback, Mac Jones fits the "bill" so to speak. I think he'll sit the entire season and learn under Cam and Josh McDaniels before being unleashed in 2022."
PICK #16 - ARIZONA CARDINALS
Mike - GM of Quantock Blue Jays - British Bulldog
DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama
"Cardinals have a number of holes to fill but go BPA and unleash a three-headed dragon of Hopkins, AJ Green and Smith for Murray to target. Smith doesn't have the largest build but has proven doubters wrong throughout his career."
PICK #17 - LAS VEGAS RAIDERS
Lee - GM of South Yorkshire Jaguars - BFA North
Alijah Vera-Tucker, G, USC
"While it was disappointing to see Darrisaw go to a division rival just a few picks ahead of us, the last of our first round graded OL is still available - he will nicely fill the Gabe Jackson sized hole left following the trade to Seattle."
PICK #18 - MIAMI DOLPHINS
Shane - GM of Derry Venom - BFA West
Najee Harris, RB, Alabama
"Big bodied back that we are missing. Can do it all. My RB1."
PICK #19 - WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM
Simmo - The Commish and GM of Herne Bay Saxons - BFU East
Davis Mills, QB, Stanford
"Outside of Lawrence, in my personal opinion one of the best Quarterbacks in this class of 2021. He is a franchise QB and one who I feel the Washington Football Team can build an offense round to bring back the glory days. Outstanding prospect."
PICK #20 - CHICAGO BEARS
Elliott - GM of Chorlton Bees - BFC West
Teven Jenkins, T, Oklahoma State
"Better protect The Red Rifle hadn't we!!"
PICK #21 - INDIANAPOLIS COLTS
James - GM of Redditch Raptors - BFC South
Gregory Rousseau, Edge, Miami
"Fills a massive need for the Colts to create more pressure of the edge, with our top edge rusher on the board. Raw with great athleticism and upside, he immediately upgrades the Colts defensive line."
** TRADE **
PICK #22 - DALLAS COWBOYS (FROM TENNESSEE TITANS)
Rich - GM of Jersey Devils - BFU South
Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina
"Prepare for Trouble… Make It DOUBLE. Horn is best available period, pairing him with Surtain just makes a coordinators job easier. Two top corners on the perimeter would funnel offenses to the center of the field and the cowboys proven front seven."
PICK #23 - NEW YORK JETS
Tom - GM of Causeway Giants - BFA West
Greg Newsome II, CB, Northwestern
Difficult selection after the Rousseau and Horn picks. Could have gone edge, but it has been addressed in FA with Lawson and Curry. Jets are in desperate need of an outside corner (or two!)
PICK #24 - PITTSBURGH STEELERS
Mark - GM of Perthshire Wild Things - BFA North
Zaven Collins, LB, Tulsa
Another strong component in an already strong defense. Great strength and great athletic ability provides this number one defense with another game changing linebacker. Devin Bush gets a buddy to tear offenses apart.
PICK #25 - JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS
Pat - GM of Stevenage Sabres - BFA South
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, LB, Notre Dame
"Meyer values speed hugely, not necessarily 40 speed, in-game speed. This guy has it in spades, could see him as a linebacker of a starting safety with his skillset, and The Jags have need both at SS and SLB so there are two positions he could strengthen us as a starter in 2021."
PICK #26 - CLEVELAND BROWNS
Harry - GM of Bromsgrove Boars - BFO West
Christian Barmore, DL, Alabama
"Thought I might need to trade up for him but just fell right in my lap, Barmore is a fast, athletic interior pass rusher who is a dangerous quarterback hunter."
PICK #27 - BALTIMORE RAVENS
Ryan - GM of Manchester Hornets - BFFL North
Azeez Ojulari, Edge, Georgia
"Much needed help on the defensive line after losing Judon."
** TRADE **
PICK #28 - JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (FROM NEW ORLEANS SAINTS)
Pat - GM of Stevenage Sabres - BFA South
Trevon Moehrig, S, TCU
"It was a close run thing at 25, and my take on chosing between two delicious desserts is why not have both. Which is why our defence now needs a new belt."
PICK #29 - GREEN BAY PACKERS
Luke - GM of Greenwich Galaxy - British Bulldog
Jalen Mayfied, T, Michigan
"The Pack are running it back retaining most of the 2020 team, though questions abound on the O-line. The Packers need a swing tackle, and a Right Tackle of the future. Mayfield fits the bill."
PICK #30 - BUFFALO BILLS
Dan - GM of Wessex Monarchs - BFC South
Travis Etienne, RB, Clemson
"Buffalo lacked the home run hitting running back last year. A dynamic runner is what should the improvements to the Bills running game."
PICK #31 - KANSAS CITY CHIEFS
Joey - GM of Solihull Spartans - BFC West
Dillon Radunz, T, North Dakota
"A player that can play LT. Chiefs got smoked in the SB and serious help needed if they want to push on next season and get back to the SB."
PICK #32 - TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
Murf - GM of Bristol Trojans - BFFL West
Jaelan Phillips, Edge, Miami
"Absolute freak of an Edge who, without the minor injury concerns, would be a top 10 pick. JPP not getting any younger, so need to get the next generation Pass Rush. Phillips can excel in a 3-4 and will thrive under Bowles."
I would like to thank all of the GM's who took part in this 7 round mock draft, an exercise we are going to repeat every year and moving forward we will be doing this for charity.
That was the last day for our "7 Draft Days" countdown. I really hope you have enjoyed the coverage and I would like to thank all of those involved with the BFFL who contributed and participated.
It is nearly Draft Day.
