QUICK 10 WITH.....OLDHAM TALONS

Oldham. A town in Greater Manchester.

It was an international centre for textile manufacturing and the name Oldham comes from the Saxon term of "old place or village". An industrial place of mills and mines, the earliest remnants of settlements go back to neolithic times with the discovery of flint arrowheads found in the area.

In sporting terms it is the home of Oldham Athletic FC and Oldham  R.L.F.C. who have won the Rugby League Football Championship five times and the Challenge Cup three times. England's most capped Netball player Jade Clarke played for Oldham.

The Oldham Talons were the highest scoring team in the league, finished 4th in the BFU West and lost out on a Bowl place, much to the annoyance of the GM. He picked up 6 GM Of The Week Awards and is determined to gain promotion to the BFA this season.

When it comes to the tech and running of this league, he is the Moss to our Jen.

To be completely honest, without his input last season, this league may have well folded. Some say genius.

That's enough plaudits.

He is Rich, he is the Assistant Commish, he is the GM of the Oldham Talons and this is his Quick 10 Questions.

1. How did you get involved in the league?

I saw the call for new teams on twitter April last year and applied. I also knew a few others who had already joined the league.

2. What team do you support?

I am a new England Patriots fan. Have a friend who lives in Maine, New England and went to see a preseason game in August 2000 against the Panthers and have followed the team ever since.

3. How did you get into NFL?

I started watching the NFL around 1998 after playing Madden 98. It really intrigued me as a sport and I wanted to learn more about it.

4. Who is your favourite player and why?

Easy answer Tom Brady, he won us 6 Super Bowls. I was really pleased to see him win his 7th this year as a Buccaneer. He is the GOAT!

5. What is your experience with fantasy football?

I started playing fantasy football a long time ago when Sky Sports used to run a weekly line-up challenge. It then grew to season long leagues on NFL.com which I played for quite a few years. Then over the past 4/5 year I have moved into dynasty and Devy leagues.

6. What are your views on a potential London franchise?

I'm not in favour of a London based franchise to be honest. I love the multiple games played here every season, but I think that's where it stops.

7. What other hobbies/sports do you enjoy apart from NFL?

I am big football fan and support Aston Villa. I love to play golf but haven't been able to get out on the course for a while due to COVID. I also play a lot of video games, currently halfway through playing Final Fantasy VII Remake.

8. What's your favourite film?

I wouldn't say I have just one favourite film, my favourite series of films are the Harry Potter films. I grew up reading the books then going to see the films. My daughter is now getting into them which is fantastic.

9. What's your favourite music?

I love all types of music depending on my mood. But my favourite band are the Arctic Monkeys. Seen them quite a few times in concert.

10. Who is your Super Bowl tip this year?

It's really difficult not to look at the Chiefs making it to the Superbowl again. When you have a game changer like Patrick Mahomes you're going to be there or there about every season.

We would like to thank Rich for taking the time out of his busy work and family schedule for answering these questions. The Commish will probably bother him with more ideas come tomorrow, around midday if that suits, but until then this has been your Assistant Commish.
