BFA - GLASGOW & SITTINGBOURNE TRADE
The BFA Bowl runners-up, Glasgow Claymores, today sent Mike Evans to the Sittingbourne Black Widows in exchange for Jaylon Smith.
The Claymores have moved division this year, from the West to the North, and up until now had not been in trade action. Over in Sittingbourne, after a phenomenal start to the 2020 season they were unable to make it to the Bowl losing out to the eventual winners Derry Venom. They decided today that Evans would be the player to add further depth to what is already an impressive roster.
Mike Evans ranked as the 10th best receiver in the BFFL last season, averaging 11.16 points per game. The man coming into the Claymores, Jaylon Smith, was the 5th best linebacker in the BFFL in 2020, averaging 15.81 points per game.
Both teams had to make space on their rosters for both players coming in. The Claymores released Tahir Whitehead into the 2021 BFA Draft pool and the Black Widows released Scotty Miller.
Glasgow Claymores GM, Gary, met with the press shortly after the trade was announced via the league Twitter page and had this to say.
"I am delighted to bring Jaylon on board to strengthen the core of our squad. He is someone I can see myself building a team around for years to come. I'd like to thank Mike Evans for his contribution since I arrived mid-season. He provided much needed depth at wide receiver and without him we surely would not have made it as far into the post season as we did. It was a tough decision to let him move on, but I am building for long term success and the youth and talent of Calvin Ridley is a closer fit in my vision for the future of the franchise."
Those comments surely cemented the fact the Claymores would be selecting both Jaylon Smith and Calvin Ridley as two of their eight keepers for 2021.
The Black Widows briefly met with the waiting reporters. They had earlier tweeted on their team feed 'We sign the best wide receiver, in Bucs history'.
The GM, James, had this to say.
"Good Evans we got him! Number 1 target brought into take Arod to the promise land. What every good GM should do right?"
Both teams will be looking to return to the playoffs again this season
