WEEK 1 - BRIT TOWERS
That is Week 1 complete here at Brit Towers.
As covered in previous league posts, this is a massive season for all the teams involved with the introduction of the promotion and relegation system between all the levels.
It is one community. This is Brit Towers.
Here is a round-up from around the leagues:
The Brighton Sharks took the GM Of The Week award as they amassed 234 points against defending British champions, Essex Wolverines.
Brighton were the only South division team to win their games in Week 1 and head into next week's divisional match-ups hoping to keep their 100% record as they face their fierce rivals, Swindon Steam.
The East Division teams dominated the other games and it is Medway Tigers who sit top, with a superior points for and they face second in their division, Cambridge Dragons, so one of these teams will be 100% going into Week 3.
The West was business as usual as Bristol Trojans and Dudley Scorpions picked up their wins over teams in the North. Talking of the North, it was roles reversed from last season as the two teams who finished in the playoff positions, Newcastle Lions and Edinburgh Cobras both lost and Manchester Hornets and Yorkshire Panthers sit in those spots and face each other next week so a 100% record is up for grabs here.
A repeat of the opening week from 2020 in the South Division as defending champions Bedfordshire Gladiators and Croydon Wildcats picked up the wins over their East Division rivals, Suffolk Eagles and Hartlepool Heathens.
The Gladiators sit top of the south with Hebburn Defenders topping the East. Colchester Knights, who had a torrid 2020 picked up the win and sit second in the East.
Merseyside Rhinos, who won the North Division in 2020, were the only team to win in the division with a victory over 2020 BFC Bowl runners-up Cardiff Hydra. The story of the week went to Solihull Spartans who amassed 222 points against Airdrie Kraken, who themselves posted a very good 188 points, to put them GM Of The Week and top of the West. Chorlton Bees sit second in the West, a complete reversal of 2020 and Walsall third with their win.
Some high scoring match-ups in Week 1 as they head into their divisional week.
Both Solihull and Chorlton face each other, meaning one team will head to Week 3 with a 100% record.
Three teams scoring over 200 points in the BFA in Week 1.
Seaton Carew Voodoo were the GM Of The Week with 208 points against IOW Buccaneers. Elsewhere, defending champions Derry Venom scored 204 in their Bowl rematch with Glasgow Claymores and Weston Renegades scored 202 against South Yorkshire Jaguars.
The BFA East continued to live up to its reputation as one of the most competitive divisions in the Brit Towers universe, with all four teams taking wins. This will change next week with the inter-divisional match ups but with none of the teams scoring under 160, it is a set of mouth-watering fixtures.
Haydock Steelers and their new GM are the only team with a win in the North after their win over Birmingham Reapers and in the South all four teams will be looking for their first win of 2021 heading into Week 2.
The West sees defending champions Derry Venom top with Weston Renegades and Causeway Giants close behind them.
Going to be a very interesting Week 2 in the BFA with 100% records up for grabs and teams looking to bounce back and grab their first wins.
It is the league level which contains both the Commish and the Assistant Commish. One would win, one would not.
Charlton Valiants would continue their regular season dominance as they despatched the Commish at the Herne Bay Jedi. The defending BFU East champions were not able to contain the Valiants in this match up.
Elsewhere, all the other three South teams lost to their East Division rivals and it is Braintree Bulldogs who sit top of the East Division on points for scored.
Sheffield Steel Hawks would be crowned GM Of The Week as they scored 213 points against BFU West champions St. Helens Storm and Bonnyrigg Huskies were the other North winner as they defeated Marlborough Commodores.
West division champions from 2020, West Coast Mariners continued the regular season dominance and the Assistant Commish sees his Oldham Talons sitting second in the West Division. Both these teams meet each other in Week 3, will be a 100% record on the line.
The story of the BFO and the league this week was the fact Tyne Hellraisers scored 240.98 points in Week 1 to break the all-time points in a game week record set by Stevenage in 2020.
Hellraisers were up against a tough Bromsgrove Boars team who posted 185 points, but what a start to the season for the team from the North East.
They were joined as winners in the North Division by Kilmarnock Coyotes who defeated Uttoxeter Colts.
The West Division winners were Easton Bears who scored a fantastic 217 points and Newport T-Rex who were involved in the closest scoring game in the league history so far when they played Granite City Slayers, with a new GM who took over just two days before the start of the season.
In the South, Oxford Scholars, who just missed out on promotion last year and North Devon Vikings ran out winners scoring 170+ and over in the East, Southend Adventurers and Peterborough Warhawks were the victors.
A massive week for Tyne Hellraisers who write themselves into the Brit Towers record books.
All these teams will get a chance to select their line-ups when it comes to the BFFL Cup, but for the Bulldog level it is the best players in their position each week.
They will also be battling for promotion in 2022 to the BFO.
Early pace-setters after Thursday Night Football were North Herts Pumas and Sussex Packers and into Sunday it looked as though the Packers would top the table, but Hamilton Demon Cats blasted through to take the spoils in Week 1 and sit top of the first ever British Bulldog table.
THAT WAS WEEK 1 AT BRIT TOWERS.
WE MOVE ON TO WEEK 2
