BFO/BRITISH BULLDOG - PROMOTION NEWS

The British Bulldog was introduced as a 6th level, Bestball format, league from 2021. All 15 teams are new franchises and will compete over the 16 week season for total points. The team with the most total points at the end of a season are the champions.

2021 was the season to let all the British Bulldog teams settle in as from the end of this season they will be in the same boat as the top 5 leagues where they will be able to keep 8 players on their roster moving forward.

The decision was to allow the champion of British Bulldog to be promoted to the BFO after the 2022 season to compete in our head-to-head style format, with the team in the BFO with the worst record moving down into the Bestball format. In "soccer" terms, British Bulldog is like a non-league buffer. The GM's here are still part of the same community, still competing, but in a different format.

That is now going to change and moving on from 2022 there will be a staggered change to the promotion and relegation format from British Bulldog to BFO to allow teams to adjust.

At the end of the 2022 season the champion of British Bulldog will be promoted to the BFO, but every year after that the promotion spot will increase to a maximum of 4 spots up for grabs, as follows:

2022 - 1 up/1 down

The champion of British Bulldog is promoted and the team with the worst record in BFO is relegated.

2023 - 2 up/2 down

The champion and runner-up in British Bulldog are promoted and the two teams with the worst record in BFO are relegated.

2024 - 3 up/3 down

The champion, runner-up and 3rd place team in British Bulldog are promoted and the three teams with the worst record in BFO are relegated.

2025 - 4 up/4 down

This is where the promotion and relegation is fixed. The top 4 teams in British Bulldog are promoted and the four teams who finish bottom of their divisions are relegated to British Bulldog.

This means that from 2025 there will be a fluidity of teams in the BFO, to stop the bottom level becoming stagnant with nothing to play for. There will be LOTS to play for as at the end of every season only 8 teams will remain in BFO with four being promoted to the BFU and four being relegated to British Bulldog.

The decision to stagger the amount of promotion and relegation places was to allow teams to adjust to the system instead of pushing 4 places in immediately from 2022.

We feel this will allow the "non-league" British Bulldog teams more chances to progress through our pyramid system, whilst also keeping the BFO competitive and stop it from becoming an area where teams just sit for multiple seasons.

The promotion and relegation is not in effect this season, it all begins in 2022.
