BFA TRADE - SIMMONS LEAVES JACKRABBITS
The Glasgow Claymores were back in trade action today, in their hunt for a Bowl and promotion to the BFC.
The 2020 BFA Bowl runners-up traded Jayon Brown, Micah Hyde and their 18.15 pick to the Jurassic Coast Jackrabbits and in exchange received Justin Simmons and the 19.05 and 20.05 pics from the Jackrabbits.
Glasgow Claymores have been extremely busy during this off-season. Gary, the GM of the Claymores, hosted what is becoming a common press conference with reporters today.
"Jayon is a player I'm sad to see go. He's a solid LB and a law abiding citizen, which seems hard to come by these days. Until Smith's arrival, he was a lock in as my keeper. However, the Smith trade sent shockwaves through my plans and opened up new opportunities to strengthen other aspects of my roster."
Gary went on to talk about Hyde.
"While Hyde is a solid enough player, my DB core is full of talented and mostly honest guys, a few of which I was happy to roll with as keepers into the draft and even at that Hyde was down the pecking order. However, Justin Simmons is a level above them and gives us a real stand-out in that position. The addition of the late round picks will hopefully see us securing some harder to find prospects at the tail end of the draft and let us wrap up the majority of our business ahead of other teams.
Over at the Jurassic Coast Jackrabbits, Chris sat down with reporters after serving a lovely cream tea selection.
"I'd been surveying the linebacker landscape over the weekend and felt that I needed more options before keepers are declared. Jayon Brown was on a huge upward tick before his 2020 season got cut short. I have every faith that he will be 100% by Week 1. It was hard to say goodbye to Justin Simmons, but I feel that Micah Hyde has every chance to exceed Justin's production. Time will tell on that one."
Chris sipped his Earl Grey and spoke of keepers in 2021.
"Despite the new arrivals to the team, keepers are still to be decided and every player will get the chance to earn their place as one our our 2021 team."
Both GM's obviously happy with the trade but no doubts about it, these are not keepers, more pawns in an off-season trade fest.
